Have you made those yearly "New Year's Resolutions" again this year?

Are you tired of making them and then within 6 weeks you are back to the same old, same old?

Too many times we do exactly that.  Why?

1. They are Unrealistic. Sometimes we make them so far beyond our reach that we couldn't meet them in a decade, much less this next year.

2. Not really for US. Sometimes we make them FOR SOMEONE ELSE and it's not even what we really SHOULD be doing. Or someone has made a suggestion and THEY TALK US INTO IT, but we NEVER really wanted to be involved in doing it. If someone else can CONVINCE us to to something, WE can convince ourselves NOT to do it.

3. Not REALLY motivated. Without the INTERNAL MOTIVATION it too easily becomes something we ignore.  When we really WANT to do something, our follow through is much greater.

4. Accountability.  No one is REALLY holding us accountable for the things that we commit ourselves to. Sometimes we need an outside source that we tell about our commitment, and then we give them PERMISSION to ask us on a regular basis if we are following through with the commitment.  And also empower them to CHALLENGE US if we admit we are falling short of that commitment.

Our R.O.i. groups will help in these areas, especially with #4. God has made a HUGE investment in OUR lives......He invested the life, and death, of His Son,...and He really does expect a Return On His Investement.  For too long we have not been giving Him a very good return.  We have allowed too many outside influences to keep us from what He would like for us to do, and to be involved in.
